I put an advert in the Navy news I got a lot of phone calls
and letters and also photos and I have been sorting it out, I have
wrote to all the people who sent me information. I have had some
info on Sharpshooter I am waiting for my brother to read it and will
send what I have to you. I have a couple of addresses of old boys
who were on Sharpshooter I can let you have them if you want.

My father was on HMS HAZARD from 1942
TO 45,He done Russian and Malta convoys and we have the papers to
say where he was on certain dates and think Sharpshooter is
            mentioned

My brother and I used to run a H.M.S.
Hazard association from 1985 till about 1994 when my father died, there was about
80 sailors we had some good stories and some good photos we also had
a sailor who kept a diary while on Russian convoys.

One of the men who wrote me a letter
said he was on Sharpshooter would send me some photos and info when
I get it I will send to you.

            My father, Stanley Walter Cornelius
Arthur Betts served aboard HMS Hazard between 23 January 1941 and 29
January 1943. He was an able seaman at that time and his official
number was JX/129876. These details I obtained from his certificate
of service. Dad went on to be a Petty Officer Gunner and his last
sailing was aboard HMS Campania to the A Bomb tests at Monte Bello
            Islands.

Dad was released from service 18 May
1953 after serving for 27 years and sadly died 16 December 1988. He
left behind my mother and four very proud sons.

I have heard much about this ship
from my father (PO Raymond Conyers) served on HMS Hazard (from 4
April 1944 until after VE day). He is well and living in
            Buckinghamshire.

Just come across your website for
Halcyon Class ships which my Dad served on from mid 1944 to the end.
He was on HMS Hazard. His name was Michael (Mike) W Carter.
Thankfully is very much alive and well and living in Christchurch,
Dorset with our Mum after having five children. Both now in their 80's
but still very sharp in the mind if not quite as speedy in the body,
Dad says he used to play cricket for the Flotilla. |

He was commissioned in 1937 (seniority
from 1935)--according to his commission document signed, of course, by
various Admiralty officials and George V. It's in my possession. Cmd.
Casley retired in 1952, died in 1976. I am his nephew and he was much
loved and respected. However, your Hazard site tells me much more than
he ever told me about his war experiences--he was modest to a fault.

Arthur was married to Pearl (who outlived him by two years), the
sister of my mother, Sybil (nee Nash). My brother, David, found your
site after many years of looking. We both now live here in Canada,
though commute a lot to the UK. Best wishes.

My Dad served on HMS Hazard
during 1944/45 his name is James Crates he lived in Tilbury and Grays after he left the Navy. I think he might be
on one of the pictures on this web site, he said it was him but his
memory and eyesight is not as good as it was, he is now 85 and
although he can remember some things, dates times and people he cannot,
unless someone can jog his memory. |

My name is Dorothy Crowden and I am
wanting to receive a more detailed copy of the photo you have on your
website and any information you have available of the HMS Hazard crew
of 1944. My late husband Ernie Crowden served on the HMS Hazard from
          1942 - 1946 as a Stoker.

Does  anyone have any info with regards  to  John Flood  from  South
Shields and  his  times  on board HMS Hazard ?  When he  was still
alive  he  never talked about his  experiences during  the  war.

For  the  first time today  I  was  shown the  photo of  the  crew
on  deck by  his  sister , my mother, which according to the notes
on  the  back , was  taken  on  the  15th  of  May  1944.

Would  be  grateful for  any  info.

Before my uncle Ronald Price died in
2004 at the age of 78 I got  my dad to ask him what ships he'd
served on in the war, and the answer came back that he trained at HMS
Collingwood and then was on HMS Hazard. I always knew he was in the
Med on a minesweeper. I think he was in the sea scouts in Stafford
(where he was born and died) and would have been 18 in November 1943.
I can't see him in any of the photos.  He would have been some
kind of ordinary seaman (an Ordinary Seaman?) working on deck, I
think. I heard he saw some pretty bad accidents (deaths?) when cables
used to snap and then  whip across the deck.
