Books
Listed here are the books that have been read during the production of this site. Some have been quoted extensively, others have offered just a few sentences. All have contributed to filling in the background to the operations the Halcyons were involved in. Some are still in print, most have been found using a combination of www.usedbooksearch.co.uk/ and www.ebay.co.uk

The immense contribution made to this site by the authors and organisations listed below and elsewhere is acknowledged. It has not proved practicable to contact all those mentioned to seek their permission but it is hoped that they accept the spirit of this project and have no objections to their material appearing here. I will of course be pleased make any amendments, additions or removals requested by the original producers of the material.

Author Title Comments
Paul Kemp CONVOY! Drama in Arctic Waters This was the first book I bought because of the reference to Sharpshooter.  It gives an excellent review of the Russian Convoys.
Richard Woodman Arctic Convoys 1941-1945 The second book I found which also gives an excellent, comprehensive review of the convoys.
The two books shown above form the basis of many of the comments in the 'Ships' Histories' section about the ships' time in Arctic Waters. Unfortunately, these have not been referenced separately in the text but the significant contribution they make to the histories of the ships is acknowledged.
Jack Williams Fleet Sweepers at War You may be interested in linking to our website as we hold the Jack Williams Collection. Jack donated many of his books and research to our University and it holds a wealth of information. In particular there is a volume which contains a collection of papers, cuttings and correspondence on Halcyon-class fleet minesweepers. We also have many other volumes like this on minesweepers and Algerines. Over the next year or so, we intend to provide a detailed list of the contents and ships covered in these volumes, but in the mean time we would like to encourage people to contact us and use this fantastic collection.
